Why Intensives?

EMDR intensive appointments support your preferred schedule and timeline for your treatment goals. These 3-4 hour sessions can be packaged to optimize results. Packaging allows for a known time frame and cost. They create sustained focus on specific objectives, making for efficient results.

Why choose Intensives?

The traditional therapy model involves a 60-minute appointment once a week or once every other week. It takes time to identify what work needs to be done and to work through those targets and goals.

Making measurable progress can take several months. Through intensive work, this same amount of work can be completed in days, not months.

Unlike typical therapy appointments that allow for about 40 minutes of focused work in a 60-minute session. Intensive therapy provides a longer span of time for continued exploration, enhancing the depth and thoroughness of the process.

Instead of 160 minutes of focused work in four 60-minute sessions, one four-hour intensive allows for 220 minutes of focused processing. It also allows deeper processing to occur sooner; often allowing insights in hours that typically arise only after months of therapy.

What are Intensives Like?

  • We will work together throughout your intensive, using your pre-work assessments to establish treatment goals and targeted therapy. We will also set up resources for you to use both in and out of session,

  • Many of my clients embark on intensive work to transform unwanted patterns of limiting beliefs, decrease triggers that arise in relationships, and update both overdeveloped protective parts and coping mechanisms learned in childhood. This journey is about your personal growth and transformation.

  • During an intensive, people often make new connections and gain new insights. In addition, some people’s brains continue making connections after the session. You may also notice your dreams changing or different responses to stimuli. To see these changes, you will keep a log of any continued connections you notice between intensive sessions.

  • There are no “shoulds” during intensive work. Just notice whatever happens without judging whether it should be happening or not.  You cannot do therapy incorrectly. Whatever happens in your session will allow us to progress in your work.

  • Those with limiting or special medical conditions (pregnancy, heart condition, ocular difficulties, etc.) should consult their medical professionals before participating in this therapeutic method. If you are involved in a legal case and need to testify, please discuss this with me.

What is Included in an Intensive Package?

  • The pre-consultation interview is used to assess for candidacy and target unpleasant beliefs, body sensations, emotions, or images from which you are seeking relief.

  • A personalized treatment workbook and course will allow you to work on your treatment goals before, during, and after our intensive sessions.

  • A Post-treatment interview to assess and support your adaption to positive changes from treatment.customized treatment program with targeted goals.

Research on Intensive Therapy is Positive

Intensive application of trauma-focused therapy seems to be well tolerated in patients with PTSD. This enables faster symptom reduction and reducing the risk that patients drop out prematurely. Learn more here and here.

  • Intensive EMDR treatment is feasible and is indicative of reliable improvement in PTSD symptoms in a very short time. Learn more here

  • An intensive program using EMDR therapy is a potentially safe and effective treatment alternative for complex PTSD. Learn more here

  • The economy is compelling: even compared to other trauma therapy, the intensive format may decrease treatment time, because of time not spent on a) checking in at the beginning of each session, b) addressing current crises and concerns, c) focusing on stabilizing and coping skills that the client won’t need after trauma healing, or d) assisting the client in regaining composure at the end of the session.
